Careers and Employment Expo

This excursion was to an exhibition of employment and career opportunities. There were lots and lots of stalls each showing a small example of what that company did. The information was in the form of displays on screens, posters, brochures, presentations and presenters who could answer questions directly. There was heaps of give-aways and the most popular stall was the Reece Plumbing Stall because they were giving away free t-shirts.

NAPLAN Testing

For the last three days we've taken time out from our busy mordiexperience schedule to sit the National Assessment tests.
The tests were quite challenging at times but we managed to get through them. They gave us an idea of what level of learning we are expected to be at.
During the tests the intensity in the room was at a high level, or at least that is what it felt like, which made us the students feel more pressured.
Completing the tests it gave us a perspective of what areas we should study more at.
At the end of the day we were all happy that we completed the tests, but also felt unsure of what the results will show up as.

MORDIALLOC MONOPOLY

This is a game we have to design using the time honoured game board as a guide. We super-impose the businesses of Mordialloc, we re-create the chance and community chest draw cards to include local names and recognisable places and then we mount them all on a board and test play the game to make sure it works. This is the fun part!

ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD

This is a task that involves a visit to the local realestate agents to find out the availability of rental properties in the Mordialloc area. Before we visit the agent we need to have brainstormed a list of features that we would like to have in a property. For example a bedroom each would be essntial, two or more bathrooms would be ideal and a spa and swimming pool would be nice added extras. Once we have arrive at the realestate agents our group needs to choose a property that we all agree suits our needs and wants. This could be harder than it looks!

A Day at the Beach

Today the Mordialloc Experience students took a trip down to the beach.
We saw many different things like the impact that humans have on the land. Some of the humans impacts are the big sand dunes, The rock walls and all of the houses built there now.
I thought that taking a trip down to the beach was a good idea because we like to learn out side of class and it made me want to help our environment. It made me want to clean up the pollution and try and help to make our community a better place. The impact that Humans have on the land is huge.

OPEN NIGHT

This was a night for Mordialloc College to show off the great programs that are happening throughout the school. The area we were directly concerned with was the Mordi Experience. We wanted to give the visitors a taste of what is was like to be part of the program if only for a brief time. We planned to use the bridge building team task and got a bunch of staws, masking tape and some newspaper to distribute amongst those that came to our area with the intention of getting them to build a bridge to span a 30 cm gap and to be of a height of 15 cm. Once construction was complete the bridge would be tested on its capacity to carry weight buy placing golf balls on it . The highest number of golf balls would be deemed the winner.

Students perspective - Rockclimbing

On the 10/4/08 all the year 9 Mordi experience people went on an excursion to the Victorian rock climbing centre in Seaford. We travelled by the school bus in 2 groups. The girls arrived early so we had to wait for about half an hour. Then the boys arrived. After a brief description of how to work the harnesses safely, we pared off and started climbing the walls. After about 2 hours every one's arms were hurting from gripping onto the rocks. The last hour was a struggle and people were giving up easy. We then had lunch and headed back to school.
